Farangis Yousefinia — فرنگیس یوسفی‌نیا

Farangis Yousefinia was born in the Gole-e Kuh village in Kelar-e Sharqi Rural District of Kelar District in Abbasabad County, Mazandaran province, Iran. Her date of birth was recorded as 21 March 1949, but she was actually born earlier, in February.^{note 1}

She grew up in a house with posts on either side of a small stream. Growing up, Farangis did more than a fair share of the upkeep around their house from a young age, like washing the dishes in the stream. She continued carrying the burden of making the house a home in later stages of her life, as a matriarch raising her own family with her husband Feizalah, always with grace. Farangis raised their daughter and two sons mainly by herself, allowing Feizalah to travel for long periods of time on missions and pursue his career in skiing at the highest level as an Olympian to provide for the family. She adored her two grandchildren - my brother and I - and her embrace was always a kind, warm refuge we would run to after angering the grownups as mischievous children.

Grandma Farangis passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of 25 February 2026 due to complications after a recent surgery.
